| John Giannakaronis | I was born on May 17, 1978 in Athens, Greece, where I reside to this day. I graduated from the Athena Lyceum in 1996. A Technological Engineer by profession, I received my degree from the School of Public Infrastructure Works of the Technological Educational Institute of Athens.
In 2005, my first book, Metal Tales, was published by TRAVLOS Publications, followed in 2010 by my second one, The Ashes of the Soul, published by ETRA Publications. My third literary attempt was Mysterious Dreamcreations, published by iWrite Publications in 2013.
My involvement with literature began when I was in my late teens. I was first attracted by the works of the great classic authors, such as Fyodor Dostoevsky and Franz Kafka. Soon after, the flames of fantasy and mystery flared up within me, drawing me primarily towards that literary genre. My preference for short stories led me straight to their great practitioners, such as Edgar Allan Poe and Jorge Luis Borges.
So when the need to create matured within me, the question as to what form I would give my ideas had already been answered. I believe the basic reasons for which I prefer short stories to novels, both as a reader and as an author, are the feelings of control and balance that they give me. As well as the safety net they offer me in avoiding the danger of my plot ‘getting away from me’ or ‘flattening out’.
